The weather may have been more drizzle than fizzle lately but there’s no denying that summer is here. The days are longer and lighter, the birds are singing and the, all be it intermittent, sun is definitely putting a smile on everyone’s face.
If you’re planning on making the most of summer and getting out into the garden over the coming weeks, you’ll want to make sure it’s looking its best.
We’ve listed the top 5 areas you’ll want to look at cleaning up this summer below.
Clean garden furniture
The elements can play havoc with your outdoor furniture over winter.
Wipe down metal, resin and rattan furniture with a clean cloth dampened with warm soapy water, before hosing down to rinse. To extend the life of your metal furniture, give it a good polish with your usual car wax after cleaning.
For wooden furniture use a warm solution of sugar soap and a scrubbing brush. You can even leave the solution on there for several minutes to remove stubborn dirt before rinsing off.
Love your lawn
A well manicured lawn will give even the ugliest of gardens an instant face lift.
Re-sow any bad patches and give it a good feed to help prevent weeds and moss. And don’t forget to mow and trim the edges at least once every couple of weeks to stop any overgrowth.
Weeding is one of those thankless, never ending tasks that simply has to be done.
Make sure you keep on top of it, using the little and often mindset, to prevent them from taking hold and spreading.
Clear out the shed
Over the winter period your shed often becomes a dumping ground for unwanted items.
Have a good clear out by removing everything from your shed, sorting into groups and giving away any unwanted items. Make sure you give the shed a good clean inside before putting any items you need to keep (neatly) away.
Your BBQ has probably been in hiding since the same time last year so it will be in need of a good, thorough clean.
